Building community in a time of social distancing

Text: Homelessness is a pandemic that we've been fighting for 22 years

Mobile Loaves & Fishes has served the chronically homeless of Austin, Texas, for 22 years. Today, the organization continues its fight against the homelessness crisis in the midst of a different crisis — one caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mobile Loaves & Fishes’ innovative Community First! Village is a master planned development that offers shelter, food, and employment opportunities for people experiencing chronic homelessness. Not only is this community spread out over 51 acres, but residents live in their own micro-homes, allowing them to maintain connection while observing social distancing.

And through its food truck ministry, Mobile Loaves & Fishes continues to bring meals, clothes — and perhaps most important, hope — to men and women who are experiencing homelessness.
