Sara Wasserteil: Lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic can help us build a more inclusive society

Sara Wasserteil, the managing director of expansion and integration at Cara, writes in a Chicago Tribune opinion piece published recently, that the COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity for employers to adopt more inclusive hiring practices as they rehire. She explains that when essential workers are viewed as essential people, employers begin to view them “with more openness, grace, and an ability to see the true talents they bring to the table.” Sara concludes by detailing that “if employers are willing to flex their recruitment efforts…to hire and cultivate talent from communities hardest hit by poverty,” there are some tangible steps they can take.
